Grounding Rhythms: Seasonal Newsletter (Spring 2025)

April 2025

INTRODUCING GROUNDING RHYTHMS

Exciting news: I’m starting a seasonal newsletter called Grounding Rhythms with Or. It’ll be sent out four times a year—once with each new season. You can expect a roundup of seasonal inspiration, ideas for ritual magic, the rhythms that are grounding me that season, and just a sprinkle of memes ;)

The inspiration behind Grounding Rhythms:

As a Taurus, I thrive in all things earthy, practical, consistent, and grounded in the senses.

Amidst the times of upheaval we’re living through, orienting to and working with the cycles and rhythms of the natural world is a foundational part of my self-care and spiritual practice.

When I can attune to the many small-scale and large-scale cycles around me (sunrise and sunset, moon cycles, seasons, astrology, Jewish calendar) —and situate myself within them— I feel grounded, inspired, and better able to show up in the ways that I want to for the people and commitments in my life.

A story/confession about working WITH, not against, seasonal rhythms:

Fun fact: I initially planned to send out the first edition of this newsletter in December, for the Winter Solstice 😅

But, in December, my soft animal body just needed to hibernate under a fuzzy blanket with Love is Blind on TV, a bowl of popcorn in one hand, and my sweet dog in the other.

I felt guilty about not sending out my newsletter…but guilt wasn’t enough to motivate me to do the thing. So, I allowed myself to sink into the rhythms of winter and trusted/hoped that I’d feel energized about the newsletter when the time was right.

I celebrated my birthday this week, and it feels extra right to share this first edition with you now!

MY GROUNDING RHYTHMS FOR SPRING

Rhythm has a soothing effect on our bodies as mammals. Here’s a collection of rhythms that are really grounding me lately. Some of these are constants in my life, and other ones are just here for the season.

DAILY RHYTHMS

Longer walks with Ollie, often visiting my favourite tree to say hello. Eagerly tracking the growth of the tulips I planted in the Fall. Going to pilates at my local studio (I’m officially in my Pilates girlie era. Anyone else??)

WEEKLY RHYTHMS

Plan out my week in my Many Moons planner, attend a Productivity Party (weekly check in & co-working session) in my pal Steph Pellett’s online community, delight in the smell of beeswax as I light my Shabbat candles from Shoresh.

MONTHLY RHYTHMS

Listening to the Embodied Astrology podcast at the start of each Zodiac season (listen for your rising sign, if you know it). Reading up on the upcoming Jewish month in For Times Such as These - here’s a beautiful excerpt from this month, Nisan:

“Jewish tradition instructs us that in this season of new growth, it is time to clean out the cobwebs and crumbs from the corners of our home and hearts. We go to the corners of our hearts and clean out that which keeps us stuck in narrow places.”
— Katz & Rosenberg, For Times Such as These

YEARLY RHYTHMS

Leading a Passover Seder aligned with my values of liberation for all. Planning a few fun, low-key, Taurean delights for my birthday (including a pilates class at GoodSpace, a facial at Laya Spa, and a walk in the sunshine with my dog Ollie at High Park).

SEASONAL RITUAL: SPRING ALTAR REFRESH

Spring is a perfect time to clear and refresh your altar, if you have one, or create one! Here are some tips to get you started:

Step 1: Clear

Put on a playlist and take 20-30 minutes to clear your altar: throw out burnt matches, wash bowls or vessels, air out your altar cloth, dust. Place crystals in a bowl of salt water and leave them for 24 hours. Burn or recycle any handwritten notes or intention slips.

Step 2: Create a Spring altar

What colours, textures, scents, and feelings do you associate with spring? Gather some items that connect to those and lay them out with love.

This can be as simple as a candle and a handwritten note with an intention. Some other ideas: tulips or spring flowers, a branch or tiny bud that's fallen off a tree, a small vessel of water, some seeds, something green or yellow - there's no wrong way to do this, allow yourself to intuitively gather whatever inspires you!

Step 3: Journal, reflect, or pull a card for each prompt

1) What “cobwebs and crumbs” are you ready to clear from your heart? Where could you use a breath of fresh air? What habits, patterns, or ways of relating aren't serving you anymore?

2) Now that you've made some space, what new energy do you want to bring in? What would feel supportive and invigorating? What is a bite-sized intention you can set to cultivate this energy/feeling/habit?

3) What has been slowly growing within you that is ready to unfurl? What patterns have you been working to shift that are showing some small signs of movement?
